Researching people in the War
The information set out here is intended to help get you started if you are wanting to research someone who was involved in the First World War.
A lot of information is now available on-line, and more is added each year.
A useful website that identifies some of the main on-line sources of information, and offers guidance to researching individuals, is the Great War website at
http://www.greatwar.co.uk/research/family-history/tracing-ww1-family-history.htm
If the person you are researching was killed in the War, a useful starting point can often be the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website https://www.cwgc.org/
If you know where the individual lived, parish records and information kept by local history groups can sometimes be helpful.
A useful source of help can be the Great War Forum https://www.greatwarforum.org which is a forum of WW1 enthusiasts, many of whom are very knowledgeable, love solving puzzles, and are very willing to help point you in the right direction and/or provide you with information.
